The Dream and The Miracle

“You’re something between a dream and a miracle,” poet Elizabeth Browning described her husband Robert. I can say nothing less now that I am in love and married to the man who was once a dream and was brought to me through a miracle.

Just like any other dream, I thought it was not going to happen. I grew up during the time when Disney princesses were a hit. I dreamed of wearing a gown and a crown. I imagine dancing with my prince. I longed to be called a princess. When my sister’s in school and no one was looking, I’d get my mom’s towel and wrap it around my head, pretending to have a long and lustrous hair. Then I’ll get my mom’s skirt and dance around the room, mimicking the moment Princess Aurora met the prince who was once upon a dream.

Growing up, I saw how the world worked. People fall in and out of love. A woman gives her heart, mind and body to a man then he suddenly leaves her. My dream looked more impossible. When I met Jesus and made Him my Lord and Savior, I held on to His promise that His will is good, pleasing and perfect. I trusted Him with the love story in my life story. I thought to myself, “I will trust Him because everyday that passes become HIStory (as in His story).” I laughed at myself but I regained hope when I trusted Him.

Years went by and I fell in love with Jesus more and more. As a matter of fact, I forgot to search for the ONE for me. I simply wrote to a journal for my future husband and ask God’s consent every time a guy comes along. Most of the time He said NO but little did I know He’ll say YES to a man named NONO. 😛

He was not the kind of guy I dreamed of but among all the men who pursued me, it was only with Him did I feel God’s peace. As advised by my beautiful and loving mother, I asked God to make me fall in love with the man He wants for me and take away any feeling I’d have for anyone who is not that man. He then made me fall in love with Nono slash Noel. Then He made all other guys look like brothers and friends and strangers. Little by little, God showed me that Noel was the man He has made for me. I then realized that God fulfilled my dream.

As I talked to God, He also made me realize that His dream was also fulfilled. I found it confusing at first. Then I learned that it is His dream for everyone to know Him and His will for their lives. We are the joy set before Him when He endured the cross (Hebrews 12:2). It is His joy to lead you to the man or woman meant for you. All He needs you to do is to let Him.

As I thanked God for my fulfilled dream, I also learned how intricate His will was for my love story. It took a miracle for two complete strangers to get to know each other and eventually fall in love. It was Him who did all that. I am simply in awe as I realize the weight and value of this wonderful gift called marriage. By His grace, we will love each other until death do us part. And as my husband and I celebrate this day that marks the first year of our marriage, I look back and thank the God who made the dream and the miracle. To Him be the glory forever!

  1. “I will trust Him because everyday that passes become HIStory” — I love this line…and I realized that making it HIStory is allowing Him to direct it because us trying to take His role will surely end it awful. 🙂

  2. Wow! I found this blog while googling the name of the guy I like. This blog made me realize that I there is no need to fantasize about him. Instead, I need to put in mind that God reserved me for one man. You inspired me, girl. Thank you so much! 🙂 I was also planning to write a journal for him..will do that right away! 😀
