Amidst the Voices

I learned a very simple truth during one conversation with Ate Fem, she said, “God has a plan for you. You have a plan for yourself. Other people, too, have plans for you.” Plans. The question is, whose plan’s gonna reign. I’m currently in my third year in college – juggling my Spanish class… Linguistics classes… Archaeology class… Ballet class.

“One more year, just one more year!” people around me exclaim, in either gladness or in disgust because I’m old (relative to the speaker’s age, of course). This season, people talk endlessly about where I should go after graduation. Their plans range from leaving the country and work to staying and taking up a Masteral Degree in God knows what. Don’t get me wrong, I do have plans for myself, another voice in the multitude. Amidst all these voices, I’m seeking one voice that will clear my ambiguous perspective… ’tis the voice from my Lord. But why is He silent? Why can’t I hear even one word with regards to this?

Then Oswald Chambers’ words in My Utmost for His Highest played in my mind, he writes, “God will not reveal to you what He’s going to do. He will reveal to you more about Him.” Then I had peace of mind. True. Very true. He doesn’t want me to expect on things to come, instead He wants me to expect on Him. He wants me to trust Him with my future whatever it may hold for He knows the plans He has for me, plans to prosper me and not to harm me, plans to give me a hope and a future (Jer. 29:11).Trusting in what could happen would utterly bring disappointments. Trusting in Him brings hope.

People have plans for me. I have plans for myself. But this I believe is true – His plan is better than any plan I (or any other people) can possibly have for myself. His plan, mysterious as it is now, is one great story, written by the Great Author.

I don’t know what the future holds. That’s the truth. But I know the One who holds my future. That’s more than enough.
